HYDROCARBON SOIL WASHING / SOIL FLUSHING REMEDIATION

ART Engineering, LLC

Project Description

ART was contracted to provide soil washing treatability studies, design of a soil washing process, plant specifications, plant start-up support and personnel training for treatment of 50,000 tons hydrocarbon contaminated soil at former hydrocarbon storage facility (tank farm) in LEZO Spain. Soil at this location was impacted with petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH - diesel range hydrocarbon) from former site operations. ART performed a treatability study to determine the feasibility of soil washing for this site.  Based on the success of the treatability study, high throughput rate and low cost of surfactant flushing (LNAPL)/soil washing remedy as compared to thermal treatment technologies, the ART/AG Ambiental team was selected by the client to implement the remediation at this site. The results of each of the treatability study were used as basis for design of a process flow diagram and detailed design of a 30 to 50 ton per hour feed capacity mobile treatment plant. Results of the treatment are shown below:
